Entry #1 Running of the Bulls

Hey, everyone my name is Drake Matney, I'm a College Athlete from GCC and a part-time cowboy/stock contractor. And with that free time, I get to do a little something called Bull riding with my Family.

Bull Riding is a sport, though it's not like any other sport in the world, the reason is because of what it entails, if you think about it have you ever heard of any sport that involves riding a bull, a little less an animal, very far and few between especially in the United States and that being said it comes to say not of people know how to do and what it takes to do it. So, I'm going to take you into the life of a stock contractor with me and the short amount of time I have to do it. What is a stock contractor? A stock contractor is a person who holds livestock usually for hire or can even bring bulls to do a job, or a bucking that helps them get more exposure for business, more exposure means more of a reputation, which means more jobs, which also means more money. That being said my Family and I have worked really hard to get the reputation we have so it comes to show why we keep doing it.

A lot of what goes on in bull riding is mostly friends and family, bull riding isn't just a working experience but an excuse for hanging out with family and friends. As a family this hobby or sport has brought us together more than any other activity we've ever done as a family, the reason I say this is because as a family were always doing something that includes having our own jobs to even sports, so this always gives us a reason to hang out for a day or even a weekend. Though we always find a way to have fun a lot of the time, most of what we do were very serious about our work but as a family when have downtime between rounds at a bucking we have a tendency to screw around.

In all reality what we do behind the scenes of bull riding and buckings, is the true testament to our characters as stock contractors, if we are not bucking we always find time in the week at the end of the day to fix fences, build panels, feed the livestock, and then go home and do what we want for the time we have left of the day which includes, school, watching sports, or even video games, so it comes to show that as a family were always very busy. But we do what can with the time we have. because as stock contractors you're always on the move no matter what you're doing. As a family we stay on our toes, we don't back down, and we keep moving forward. So I've come here to tell you about my hobby as a stock contractor and the things I do for that, but in all honesty, my family is my hobby, and I wouldn't be surprised if they thought the same.

Entry #3 CNN "Violent" Article Analysis

  For this blog post, I stumbled upon an interesting example of slanted reporting in this article from CNN. It really highlights the importance of understanding media bias and its impact on an audience.  CNN removes description of Wisconsin protests as “violent” (studentnewsdaily.com) This article is about CNN removing a description of the Wisconsin protests as "violent." This incident sheds light on the rhetoric used by media outlets and the potential uses of biased reporting. The report begins by stating that CNN had included the word "violent" in their article about the protests in Wisconsin but eventually removed it without any explanation. This raises a lot of questions about the credibility of the source because it shows a lack of accountability for their own reporting. Entry #6 Double Diamond Ranching.

 What does it take to be a rancher? Well, in my opinion, not a whole lot. It probably takes about two or three things, maybe more: a truck, barbwire, some more barbwire, hay, and A LOT more hay. So like I said, ranching is not super hard. The only hard parts are the heat and running cattle all over the place. I myself have never liked ranching a whole lot due to doing it my entire life, so in my case, it's really not even ranching anymore. It's just an everyday occurrence. Now, what goes into ranching? Well, you got your cattle to either slaughter for some meat to feed your family or several families; you have your hogs to breed and to either sell off or butcher; you got your horses, chickens, goats, and even llamas if you're really weird.
